Melting Frost

We awake each morning this week to frost which gives way to mist. As the day light increases, the drops of melted frost hang from plants like miniatures lanterns.

A retired primary school head teacher, I now spend much of my time gardening in our quarter acre plot in rural Shropshire south of Shrewsbury. I share my garden with Jude my wife a newly retired teacher , eight assorted chickens and a plethora of wildlife. Jude does all the heavy work as I have a damaged spine and right leg.     Great slideshow – you make me want to grab my camera and rush outside! I love witch hazel but haven’t got one yet.

      Witch hazels are wonderful plants. Their colours look extra special because of when they flower and the curly ribbon like shapes of the petals are so unusual. We have the national collection of them just a few miles from here, so we visit every year for a cold wander.
